MANILA , Philippines -- The Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P) expects to finish this month its proposed roadmap for country's outsourced services industry.
BPA/P has contracted the services of consulting firm McKinsey in drafting the roadmap, which is expected to identify the type of services the Philippines can enter into for the next five years.
"The roadmap will discuss in detail how to develop these new types of services," said Dan Reyes, president of BPA/P and head of call center operator SITEL Philippines.
While primarily call center-driven, the industry is being prodded to go into higher-value services to stay competitive with outsourcing pioneer India .
BPA/P also aims to produce a million jobs from out of the outsourcing sector, which currently employs an estimated 250,000 workers.
In her State of the Nation Address, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo encouraged the outsourcing sector to target other services like accounting.
In an interview, Reyes said the Philippines is in a good position to capitalize on its niche as a call center service provider.
He added it is a "natural progression" for the country to go into non-voice services such as human resources or HR outsourcing.
"Our niche really lies in the fact that we provide good service already," Reyes said.
